Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in the U.S. Virgin Islands, particularly at Morningstar Beach. One of the most concerning mosquito-borne diseases in the U.S. Virgin Islands is Dengue fever. This viral illness is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito and can cause symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, and rash. In severe cases, Dengue fever can lead to complications such as Dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can be life-threatening.

Another mosquito-borne disease of concern in the U.S. Virgin Islands is Chikungunya. This viral disease is also transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and can cause symptoms such as fever, joint pain, muscle pain, headache, and rash. While Chikungunya is rarely fatal, it can cause debilitating joint pain that lasts for months or even years in some cases.
